Singled Out
July / August 2003
Table for one? Perish the thought.
Singles in Palm Beach County don’t have to dine alone, according to Barry Adelson, the co-founder of Single Gourmet. He and his partner, Laura Simoncini, arrange weekly gatherings for singles at some of the area’s top tables, including La Vieille Maison, Trevini and Shula’s Steakhouse.
For these events, Single Gourmet reserves the entire restaurant so that clients can dine and chat in privacy. The turnout is anywhere between 50 and 150, depending on restaurant capacity.
Some come to meet the partner of their dreams, others to network. Either way, the food and atmosphere are consistently good. So is the sophistication of the people. “This is not the $10 buffet crowd,” Adelson says about his clientele. “They are the kind of people you would expect to see at quality restaurants.”
